Omega Computer Midi Tower Case

Before introducing our new top of the range RISC computer we first pay our respects to Acorn for their pioneering RISC developments and computers.

Today RISC processors are to be found in products as diverse as mobile telephones, laser printers, music systems, satellite TV set top receivers and desktop computers, in fact RISC licensees now produce more processors than any other processor technology.

The Omega is a completely new internet ready desktop computer design that is a blend of RISC and PC architectures, which brings together the best features of both platforms.

The Omega delivers its unrivalled performance from multiple low power StrongARM processors - high resolution graphics - PCI local bus expansion - Universal Serial Bus expansion - networking capability and the RISC OS operating system - a combination which makes the Omega one of the most compatible computer systems ever produced at an affordable price.

The Omega opens the door on a wealth of applications software from the thousands of existing RISC OS titles to the software written for DOS/Windows. Plus the Omega’s awesome abilities offer software developers a reliable, stable and future proofed development environment.

Omega is proof of MicroDigital’s technological skills in designing and manufacturing powerful, innovative, world class systems at an affordable price.

Welcome to the Omega - THE NEXT GENERATION.

The Power to Succeed

The Omega derives the power to succeed from its multi-processor design which is capable of supporting dual StrongARM processors, including the new Intel Xscale and a floating point maths co-processor running RISC OS 4. It also supports a single board PC card for those who require Windows compatibility.

Omega is powered by a 306MHz Intel StrongARM 110 processor plus the Omega accepts a second ARM/StrongARM processor and/or maths co-processor via a daughterboard which are designed to plug into the motherboard’s high speed expansion interface. The first processor to take advantage of this arrangement is the new 1GHz Intel Xscale 80200 processor.

Xscale is the name of the new family of ARM based processor developed by Intel from the existing StrongARM design. The initial version will provide in the region of a three times performance boost by comparison with the existing StrongARM SA110. We have plans to use the ARM 9 and 10 processor options as and when they become available.

The StrongARM processors work together in conjunction with the Omega system management software. This arbitrates between the processors to automatically pass data to and fro as required.

The dual processor design allows the current 26bit mode RISC OS operating system to take advantage of the much faster 32bit mode only Xscale processor to run 32bit applications. In future when a 32bit mode version of the operating system becomes available the dual processor design will be able to provide full backwards compatibility with legacy 26bit only software via our Artwister technology.

About the Omega Midi Tower Case

The picture above shows the Midi Tower case - it is much bigger than the standard case being designed for the power user it is designed to take a maximum of four 3.5 inch devices and four 5.25 inch devices. It provides seven expansion slots and comes fitted with a 240Watt power supply as standard although a 300Watt power supply is available as an optional extra. Users who wishing to use the single board PC expansion card will have to use this or the Desktop case.
